The View from Above, Class 5 of 10
The Loss of Decision-Making / Boundaries
What do I choose when fear, guilt, shame, or doubt are present?
A class about the moment fear, guilt, shame, or doubt start making decisions for you, and about the Fortitude it takes to know your boundaries and choose from inside them anyway.
What This Class Teaches
This class helps someone learn that fear, guilt, shame, and doubt don't have to be the ones deciding. Fortitude is choosing anyway, from inside boundaries that keep you safe.
The Hike Lesson
“I need to know my boundaries and know that I am safe within them.”
Only the Prologue and the opening of Chapter 1 of “The View From Above” were recovered as the author's own written words, told in full on this page. This class's own place in the hike exists in the source archive only as an audiobook chapter and video, without a transcript, so it couldn't be independently recovered here. What follows is Dorian's own directly-supplied recognition and lesson for this class, in his own words, not further invented scene detail.
The Virtue Family, Fortitude
Every person already carries Fortitude, whether or not it feels awake right now. This class doesn't ask you to acquire it, it asks what Fortitude can help you notice.
What It Can Look Like
- Naming which feeling is actually loudest, fear, guilt, shame, doubt, instead of one undifferentiated bad feeling.
- Building a boundary that makes a hard decision safer to make, without waiting for the feeling to disappear first.
- Deciding with the feeling present, not despite pretending it isn't there.
Personal Recognition
Nothing here has to be shared with anyone. These are just for you.
Which of the four is loudest for me
Fear, guilt, shame, or doubt?
A decision it's been interfering with
Name it, even loosely.
What boundary would make this safer to decide
What structure or limit would help?
Chemistry Recognition
Fortitude includes Courage, Steadfast, Resilience, Assertive, and more. Which one already shows up when you think of a hard decision you've made before, even a small one?
Practice
This week, name one decision you've been avoiding, name which of the four is loudest, set one small boundary that would make it safer, then decide, inside that boundary.
What Becomes Possible
Not a promise that fear, guilt, shame, or doubt disappear. What can become possible is building a real boundary and choosing safely inside it, without waiting for those feelings to go away first.
Whatever this class brought up for you, a recognition, a question, something you disagree with, something you're still turning over, take it into a private AVAIA conversation, in your own words, at your own pace, kept entirely yours.
